Member of the Month June 2025
Ben Hiscoke
Our Member of the Month this month is Ben Hiscoke.
Two years ago, Ben’s world—and that of his family—was turned upside down. At just eight years old, after several months of headaches, sickness, and vision problems, Ben was diagnosed with a high-grade glioma. It was a life-altering moment, but from the very beginning, Ben faced his diagnosis with extraordinary courage.
He was quickly taken to Bristol Children’s Hospital, where he underwent major surgery, intensive treatment, and a long road to rehabilitation. Since then, Ben has endured multiple procedures for hydrocephalus and tumour regrowth. Despite these challenges, he has remained positive and resilient, showing a level of strength far beyond his years.
Ben is now enrolled in a promising drug trial at Great Ormond Street Hospital. The treatment is showing encouraging signs, and his family is filled with hope. Through every step, Ben has demonstrated an unwavering determination that continues to inspire everyone around him.

Remarkably, he hasn’t allowed his illness to define him. He’s embraced life with enthusiasm, enjoying his childhood to the fullest. He’s especially looking forward to starting secondary school this September—an exciting milestone that seemed uncertain not long ago.
A special part of Ben’s journey has been his Beads of Courage. Each bead represents a treatment, a procedure, or a brave moment.
'His beads have become a great comfort to us all and he shows them off to anyone he can, proud to have overcome so much. He always looks forward to updating them at each visit.'
Ben’s story is still unfolding, but his journey so far is one of incredible bravery, resilience, and hope—one colourful bead at a time.
